More FamilyMart stores to open in east coast this year

SHAH ALAM: FamilyMart Malaysia, managed by QL Resources Bhd, plans to open more stores on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

QL Maxincome Sdn Bhd director Chia Lik Khai says the company is securing locations to meet the demands of its consumers.

"We are planning to open FamilyMart stores on the east coast of Malaysia, and we know that our consumers are patiently waiting for us to expand there.

"The announcement of the first FamilyMart on the east coast will be made through our Facebook soon, and we are planning to open 20 stores by the end of the year, focusing on Kuantan, Pahang starting next month," Chia said.

In line with the new stores' plan, Chia said that in strengthening its value proposition, the company's FamiCafé in Menara U has received its first halal certification from Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM), making it the first convenience store in Malaysia to obtain this certificate.

Chia said the company aims to have the 300 FamiCafés stores halal-certified by 2025.

"All new FamiCafés will automatically adopt the layout guided by JAKIM while existing ones will be converted to incorporate the changes required," says Chia.

JAKIM will guide FamilyMart Malaysia in conducting halal audits for its stores in stages, and the audit process has already started in two of their stores.

FamilyMart Malaysia's halal certification is part of its ongoing commitment to providing a sense of security for consumers.

"Our journey to obtain halal certification in our stores is the next step in providing greater assurance and confidence for customers to shop and dine with us.

It underscores our commitment to improving consumers' lives through products, services and amenities that meet their daily needs," Chia added.

In line with this, the company has ceased the sale of alcohol at all of its stores since March.
