KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- Halal Development Corporation Bhd (HDC), an agency under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti), has appointed Khairul Azwan Harun as chairman with immediate effect.
In a statement today, the company said Khairul Azwan would play a significant role in advancing Malaysia's halal agenda to greater heights, with a focus on a stronger international presence.
"This includes raising the nation's profile as a top producer and exporter of halal products and services in the world as well as a preferred destination for halal businesses," it said.
HDC said Khairul Azwan is currently chairman at both VSolar Group Bhd and mTouche Technology Bhd. He was previously Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd chairman.
The statement said Khairul Azwan has a strong leadership record in his 20-year experience in the corporate and government sectors.
He was also a Dewan Negara senator between 2016 and 2019, the statement said.
According to HDC, Khairul Azwan holds a Master's degree in Management from Open University of Malaysia. He also attended a global leadership course at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in the United States.
