KUCHING: Police have confirmed that the decomposed body found in a drain in Tabuan Jaya last Sunday is that of Nurul Asikin Lan, 26.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said that the identification was confirmed after the authorities received the results of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test this afternoon.
"The body found on Jalan Setia Raja has been identified and confirmed to be the victim, Nurul Asikin," he said briefly via WhatsApp today.
The late Nurul Asikin was reported missing on Dec 5 after leaving with a man she had just met.
Last Sunday, her decomposed body was discovered in a drain near a garbage dump on Jalan Setia Raja, Tabuan Jaya.
Mancha said that the main suspect, a man in his 20s, was arrested on Saturday and led police to the location, showing them where the victim's body was discarded.
The suspect also reportedly confessed to killing the woman.
Meanwhile, a post on social media by a woman believed to be a family member of the victim shared that the burial would take place at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery tomorrow.
The woman also requested that the public refrain from contacting the family at this time to avoid disturbing their emotions.
"Anyone who wishes to pay their respects can go directly to the Samariang Muslim Cemetery tomorrow. Please do not contact my cousin's family at this time," she said.
