BYD expands presence in Johor, Penang

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Motors, the automotive arm of Sime Darby Bhd, and BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, recently celebrated another milestone with the opening of two new BYD centres in Penang and Johor Bahru.

This marks BYD's continued expansion in Malaysia.

Developed by SD Motors' subsidiary, Sime Darby Beyond Auto, the centres provide convenient accessibility to world-class sales and aftersales services for customers across the nation, strategically located in the northern and southern regions.

"With both new centres designed to offer elevated experiences for customers as they are integrated in shopping malls, the latest BYD showroom expansion in the northern and southern regions demonstrates the brand's accelerating growth across Malaysia," SD Motors said.

Jeffrey Gan, managing director of SD Motors Retail and Distribution for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macau, said the response to BYD in the Malaysian market has been overwhelmingly positive.

"This clearly demonstrating growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. We are pleased to build up our momentum with this expansion drive to continue serving increasing EV demand amongst consumers across Malaysia with BYD's innovative vehicles," he added.

Eagle Zhao, managing director of BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd and PT BYD Motor Indonesia, said the aggressive expansion of BYD's network in Malaysia shows positive growth for EV prospects in the country.

"More Malaysians recognise BYD's brand presence and the benefits of EV. This further demonstrates the confidence in BYD's branding and the strong partnership with SD Motors and we look forward to continue growing this," he added.
