KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia has maintained its benchmark interest rate at three per cent, citing that the monetary policy stance is slightly accommodative and remains supportive of the economy.
In a statement, the central bank said the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) sees "limited risks" of future financial imbalances and remains vigilant to ongoing developments.
"The MPC will ensure that the monetary policy stance remains conducive to sustainable economic growth amid price stability," it said.
Economists had expected the central bank to keep the overnight policy rate (OPR) at current level after a surprise hike of 25 basis points in May.
Bank Negara kept rates unchanged in its first two meetings this year after four consecutive hikes in 2022 totalling to 100 basis points.
