KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) today announced new leadership for both its board of directors and executive management, with the appointment of Datuk Zainal Abidin Putih as its new chairman and TM-grown talent Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, as the new managing director and group chief executive officer effective August 1.
Amar succeeds Datuk Imri Mokhtar, who completes his three-year term on July 31, 2023, while Datuk Zainal succeeds Tan Sri Azlan Hashim, who completes his two-year term on July 31, 2023.
Beginning his career with TM after graduating in 1998, Amar's roles have ranged from financial control, internal audit, corporate and regulatory affairs, group chief executive officer's office, culminating in his current P&L position at TM Global.
Zainal Abidin on the other hand is currently the chairman of Financial Reporting Foundation (FRF), Land and General Bhd, Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd and Tokio Marine lnsurans (Malaysia) Bhd, as well as board member of Khazanah Nasional Bhd and several private limited companies.
Zainal Abidin will be responsible for overseeing the overall governance and strategic direction of the company.
He will work closely with the board of directors and management team to drive TM's next wave of growth and strengthen its market position.
