KUALA LUMPUR: Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz yesterday said his ministry will rollout the red carpet from "airport to hotel" to welcome former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad's RM500 billion investor, if its true.
Mahathir reportedly told Sinar Harian last Saturday that he had met with an investor looking to invest RM500 billion into Langkawi. Sinar Harian today however issued a correction, stating that the figure reported should have been RM500 million.
In a tongue in cheek video in Malay posted on his social media accounts, Zafrul urged Mahathir to share details of the investor looking to put money into Langkawi for his Ministry to follow up and ensure the smooth entry of the investor.
" For your information, the highest amount of investments the country has ever achieved was RM309 billion in a year, and even that, was from various sources and not for one single state. If its true that there is an investor who is looking to invest RM500 billion in Langkawi alone, it would be a new record for Malaysia,' Zafrul said.
"We greet investors who bring in millions with open arms, so I can assure you that we will roll out the red carpet - from airport to the hotel- for the RM500 billion investor," he quipped.
