PNB president Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn named as new CEO of EPF

KUALA LUMPUR: Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn has been appointed as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the Employees Provident Fund EPF effective from Feb 19.

Currently helming Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) as president and group chief executive, Ahmad Zulqarnain succeeds Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, who was appointed as the Minister of Finance II, after leading the fund since March 1, 2021.

Ahmad Zulqarnain brings with him a strong corporate background, having served as the CEO of Danajamin Nasional Bhd and deputy managing director of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

He has a Bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University.

EPF chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir said the EPF board extends its heartfelt gratitude to Amir Hamzah for his exemplary service to the fund and significant contributions and achievements, which have positioned the EPF for continued success. 

"At the same time, we would like to welcome and congratulate Encik Ahmad Zulqarnain on his appointment as the new EPF CEO. 

"With his extensive corporate experience, we are looking forward to his dynamic and focused leadership to drive the EPF to greater heights," he said in a statement today.

Throughout Ahmad Zulqarnain's tenure as president and group chief executive, he played a crucial role in advancing the PNB's mandate, achieving significant business milestones and in cultivating innovation. 

He has been passionate in solidifying the trust of the nation in PNB and renewing the organisation's overarching purpose: To uplift the financial lives of Malaysians across generations.

"On behalf of the board of directors, management and staff at PNB, I extend our heartfelt thanks to Ahmad Zulqarnain for his invaluable contributions to PNB, ASNB and PNB's group of companies during his tenure here," said PNB Group chairman Raja Tan Sri Arshad Raja Tun Uda.

His leadership has been instrumental in laying out the new three year strategic plan and steering PNB towards improving portfolio returns, operational agility, reinforcing the organisation's ability to be progressive while effectively responding to dynamic challenges, he added.
