KUALA LUMPUR: Padiberas Nasional Bhd (Bernas) has revised the price of imported white rice, reducing it to RM3,000 from RM3,200 per tonne.
The move was in line with the announcement by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad Sabu yesterday.
"This ensures a reduction in retail prices of mported white rice by RM2 to RM3 per 10 kilogramme bag," it said in a statement today.
It demonstrates Bernas' commitment to ensuring product availability despite the ongoing trend of imported white rice prices remaining at their highest levels in the past 15 years.
Bernas' move is in tandem with the government's announcement and remains dedicated to ensuring sufficient and stable rice supply for households nationwide, while also commending the government's intervention measures to enhance the distribution of local white rice.
Bernas reaffirms its commitment to support and uphold the nation's food security agenda by collaborating closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and industry partners.
The company reiterates its commitment to the ministry's long-term action plan, prioritising the welfare of farmers and maintaining a sustainable rice supply chain within the country.
Remaining focused in fulfilling its social obligations, Bernas manages the national stockpile and operates as the final purchaser of rice from farmers, prioritising national interests amidst uncertain global market conditions.
