KUALA LUMPUR: Westports Holdings Bhd said the source, cause and containers involved in a fire at its yard on June 8, has yet to be determined.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd, the port operator said authorities involved, and external parties are still ascertaining the extent of the damage, and the number of containers affected by the fire that broke out within the company's extensive container yard facilities at 1.15pm on June 8, 2024.
"Westport will, in due course, inform the shipping lines/box operators of the affected boxes," it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today.
On June 8, a fire broke out at a container yard operated by Westport's wholly owned subsidiary, Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Westport Malaysia).
The Fire and Rescue Team of the Westport Port Police responded immediately upon receiving information from Port Police Control Centre.
With further assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department, the fire was brought under control.
Westport said there were no injuries or damage to port equipment arising from this incident.
The company also said that terminal operations were unaffected during the entire duration of the incident and the fire was confined to a specific area within the extensive container yard facilities of Westport Malaysia.
"The Fire and Rescue Department, the Royal Malaysian Police and the Port Klang Authority will conduct a thorough investigation on the cause and source of the fire," it added.
