KUALA LUMPUR: TF Value Mart, a hypermarket brand, says it will save RM132.6 million over 25 years by implementing carbon-neutral energy solutions and driving sustainability efforts across its outlets nationwide.
The company, which has 47 outlets, is undertaking this initiative with Plus Xnergy.
In a statement, it said that the rooftop solar solutions will be installed over 23 outlets in several locations, including Balik Pulau, Kuala Kangsar, Ipoh, Port Dickson, Taiping, and Tanjung Malim.
The estimated savings of RM132.6 million will be achieved through yearly renewable energy generation of 8,09 million kWh, or RM5.3 million per year. This is equivalent to offsetting 3.93 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over 25 years.
"In the short term, our goal is to reduce our energy consumption and operational costs through the use of solar power. And for the long run, we aim to continuously explore and implement innovative energy solutions to further decrease our carbon footprint while contributing to a greener future for the communities we serve," said TF Value's chief executive officer (CEO), Ho Mun Hao.
"With evidential results from earlier solar installation projects in our stores at Muar, Gerik, and Bera, we have embarked on this large-scale effort to cover 23 stores and are confident of its outcome," he said.
Ho said the company has three main sources of energy usage, with air conditioning consuming the highest amount at 65 per cent of its total energy consumption, followed by lighting at 19 per cent and refrigeration at 16 per cent.
"It's important that we manage our consumption across these areas, and adapting renewable energy solutions contributes significantly to the efficiency of our energy management.
"Additionally, introducing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations is part of our broader commitment to sustainability and meeting the evolving needs of our customers. While the current demand may be modest, we anticipate a growing interest in electric vehicles and want to be proactive in supporting this shift.
"By providing EV charging facilities, we aim to encourage the adoption of cleaner transportation options in our communities," added Ho.
According to Ho, the company aims to have EV charging stations set up across four of its outlets in Tambun, Raub, Nusa Bestari, and Gua Musang.
