Petronas Carigali in talks to take over 2 ExxonMobil contracts [BTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd is in discussions with ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. (EMEPMI) with regards to the transfer of two production sharing contracts (PSCs) located offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

In an email reply to Business Times, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) said the discussions are subject to further agreements between both parties.

"Petronas Carigali remains committed to safe operations, as well as maintaining reliable and uninterrupted energy supply for our customers throughout the process," added the national oil company.

A source told Business Times last Friday Petronas is buying ExxonMobil's operations but the latter will still own its assets valued at US$3 billion.

Following the purchase, some of ExxonMobil's staff are expected to be under Petronas' payroll.

The source close to the matter also said transfer of ownership from ExxonMobil to Petronas will "eventually take place in the future".

The US oil major, which last year marked its 130th year in Malaysia, reportedly has been trying to sell its ageing upstream assets in the country since 2020.

Exxonmobil operates 35 oil and gas platforms in 12 fields offshore Terengganu, and has a working interest in another 10 platforms in five fields in the South China Sea.
