KUALA LUMPUR: MISC Bhd has appointed Zahid Osman as its executive director, president and group chief executive officer with effect from Aug 16.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, MISC said Zahid, 52, will succeed Captain Dr Rajalingam Subramaniam, 58, who has resigned to pursue other interests after a career spanning more than 40 years.
The group announced that Rajalingam will resign from his role on Aug 15.
Rajalingam started his career in 1984 at sea before coming ashore in the year 1996 and has since held various positions and leadership roles in MISC.
This included vice president fleet management services in 2008 before being appointed as the president and chief executive officer of AET Group in Jan 2016.
He was appointed as president and group CEO for MISC since October 2022.
Beyond his leadership roles, Rajalingam also serves the global maritime industry in various capacities including as board member of Gard P&I and executive committee member of the International Association of Independent Tankers Owners.
He has received numerous awards for his active service in the international maritime industry.
He is also an active member of International Chamber of Shipping's shaping the future task force.
Meanwhile, MISC said Zahid's appointment is in accordance with the group's succession planning process.
He was recently appointed as the chief operating officer of MISC effective June 1, 2024.
Zahid has been with MISC since 2017, where he joined the organisation as the vice president of Gas Assets & Solutions and moved on to a new role as the vice president of Corporate Planning in 2022.
He also sits on the boards of several subsidiaries and joint venture companies within MISC and as a director on the board of AET since January 2020 before being appointed as president and chief executive officer of AET effective June 1, 2023.
Prior to MISC, Zahid was with the Shell Group of Companies for over 20 years.
