Bursa Malaysia ends lower as investors still cautious about outlook

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended the day lower today as investors remain cautious as global uncertainties persisted.

At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 1.49 points or 0.09 per cent to 1,590.38 from Wednesday's close of 1,591.87.

The index opened 5.91 points lower at 1,585.96 and moved between 1,579.69 and 1,593.24 throughout the trading session today.

On the broader market, decliners surpassed gainers 651 to 445, with 467 counters unchanged, 880 not traded and nine others suspended.

Turnover decreased to 4.31 billion units worth RM3.09 billion from Wednesday's 5.12 billion units worth RM4.02 billion.

Malacca Securities said the FBM KLCI ended marginally lower as the index was dragged down by the selling pressure with profit taking emerging within heavyweights.

The stock is tracking the overnight weakness in the regional markets' performance as global uncertainties persisted, it said in a note.

Cape EMS Bhd was the most actively traded stock, bagged four sen to 48 sen.

Its group chief executive officer further trimmed her stake by 11.6 per cent. That cuts her equity by nearly half to 138.72 million shares in the company.

Heineken Malaysia Bhd was the top gainer, rising 68 sen to RM22.58, followed by Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, which added 52 sen to RM18.60 and Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, which rose 50 sen to RM36.
