KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed mixed at midday as profit-taking hit selected key heavyweights.

At 12:30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.14 per cent or 2.31 points lower at 1,607.21, versus Tuesday's close of 1,609.52.

The index opened 2.27 points higher at 1,611.79 and had moved between 1,606.49 and 1,612.63 in the morning session.

However, market breadth was positive with gainers leading losers 466 to 409, while 488 counters were unchanged, 1,105 untraded, and nine suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.14 billion units worth RM1.17 billion.

According to CGS International Securities Malaysia, the upside may be capped in the immediate term.

The research firm believed that the market may be ready to go into consolidation mode that may last a while.

"Moving back above the dotted line (1,611 to 1,614) would likely move the market's gears back to neutral.

"1,611 acts as the overhead resistance followed by 1,628 (key resistance) next. Support remains at 1,574 to 1,579 followed by 1,552 next," it said.
