CelcomDigi posts 18pct higher net profit to RM406.02mil in Q2

KUALA LUMPUR: CelcomDigi Bhd reported an 18.1 per cent increase in net profit for the second quarter ended June 30, 2024, rising to RM406.02 million from RM343.5 million in the same quarter last year.

The company attributed this to an increase in service revenue and the benefits realised from merger synergies.

However, revenue saw a slight decline, dropping by 0.5 per cent to RM3.11 billion from RM3.12 billion in the corresponding quarter last year.

Service revenue grew by RM7 million, or 0.3 per cent, compared to the previous quarter.

This was driven by higher roaming usage, strong uptake of new subscribers in postpaid and home and fibre segments, increased bulk SMS revenue, and new solution deals in the second quarter of 2024.

On the other hand, prepaid revenue declined due to a shrinking subscriber base, resulting from fewer one-time SIM acquisitions.

CelcomDigi announced a second interim dividend of 3.5 sen per share, amounting to RM411 million, consistent with the dividends declared in the previous two quarters.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Idham Nawawi said the second quarter of 2024 was a period in which the company maintained its focus on driving transformation and integration efforts while achieving sustainable growth in both revenue and profit.

"We have gone to market with a refreshed product portfolio and new retail stores, giving our customers an entirely new experience and connectivity solutions for work, play and home.

He highlighted that the business is evolving to meet the needs of consumers and enterprise customers in a new 5G-AI-driven era of "digital everything".

Idham expressed CelcomDigi's commitment to supporting the government in the country's transition to a dual network and advancing its goal of becoming a 5G-AI-powered digital society.

"We have submitted a compelling proposal to build a high-performance 5G network for the nation."
