BASF Petronas Chemicals gets 400 volunteers for restoration effort at Pantai Chendor

KUALA LUMPUR: BASF Petronas Chemicals gathered 400 volunteers recently to contribute to the restoration initiative of coastal ecosystems at Pantai Chendor, Cherating, in conjunction with the Merdeka celebration.

They included its employees, family members, authorities, close stakeholders, and surrounding community.

In a statement, the company said that 3,000 mangrove sapling species were planted by them, together with volunteers from the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Pahang Branch.

They also released 150 baby sea turtles into their natural habitat.

This initiative marks a significant step towards environmental preservation and community engagement, said BASF Petronas Chemicals managing director Tan Aik Meam.

"We are excited to engage with our family and community in this meaningful activity that not only celebrates our independence but also emphasises the importance of protecting our natural environment," Tan said.

He added that the activities are aimed at educating the community about the significance of mangroves and the challenges faced by marine life, particularly endangered turtle species.
