KUALA LUMPUR: Edra Power Holdings Sdn Bhd (Edra) powered up its Telok Gong Power Station 2 (TGPS2) at midnight on September 15, in celebration of Malaysia Day.
Edra, via its subsidiary Panglima Power Sdn Bhd received conditional approval from the Energy Commission on July 23, 2024 for a one-year extension of its power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).
This extension, effective from September 15 ensures the ongoing operation of TGPS2, a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant with a capacity of 705 megawatts (MW).
Edra's president and executive director Zhong Xianjue said the company is honoured that TGPS2 successfully completed its recommissioning in just 45 days after a 17-month shut down following the expiration of the original PPA.
"This extension proves that Malaysia's power industry has the ability to operate CCGTpower plants reliably and efficiently over the long term. It will not only drive economicgrowth and ensure energy supply stability, but also extend the plant's operational lifespan."We are proud to continue supporting the development of communities, industries and the overall progress of the nation," he said.
First commissioned in 2002, TGPS2 will continue to utilise its advanced F-class gasturbines in a two-on-one layout.
The plant underwent a comprehensive series of inspections and tests including evaluations of the Gas Turbines and Steam Turbine, Generators and Transformers testing, protection relay calibration and the commissioning of the Balance of Plant (BOP).
Zhong further noted that the PPA extension is expected to contribute positively to thecompany's future earnings and strengthen its strategic position in the country's energyindustry.
