KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed higher on Thursday spurred by buying interest following the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) rate cut.
At 5pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 0.3 per cent or 5.06 points to 1,665.65.
The key index moved between 1,657.13 and 1,665.84 levels today.
The broader market saw gainers led losers 897 to 322 while 393 counters were unchanged.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said the sentiment on local market will remain positive following the good news from the US.
"We are hoping this will entice more participants into the market, hence enhancing the market trading volume. "We anticipate the FBM KLCI to trend within the range of 1,660-1,680 towards the weekend," he said in a note.
He added that the Fed's 50 basis point reduction, its first in over four years, was largely expected by traders.
