KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, Malaysia Aviation Group's (MAG) will step down as the group chairman effective today.
"The board and management of MAG would like to take this opportunity to express its deepest appreciation and gratitude for Wan Zulkiflee exceptional leadership and invaluable contributions to the airline."Wan Zulkiflee's wealth of experience guided MAG through turbulent times of COVID-19, playing a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of the group's financial restructuring exercise, reducing liabilities by over RM15 billion," it said in a statement today.
MAG said his stewardship was crucial in guiding the aviation company to report its first ever net income after taxes (NIAT) in 2023, since its first inception in 2015.
Wan Zulkiflee was appointed as the group chairman of MAG in July 2020.
He indicated his intention to resign from the board in June 2024, after four years of service.
His departure is the latest in board moves at MAG, where the group appointed former Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd's (MAHB) managing director Tan Sri Dr Bashir Ahmad as a member of its board last month.
Bashir previously served Malaysia Airlines for 29 years, starting as a management trainee in 1972 and worked in various areas of the airline before becoming Executive Vice President of the airline.
MAG's board now consists of MAG group managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, and non-executive director Tan Sri Krishnan Tan Boon Seng, among others.
