SEOUL: CelcomDigi Bhd and South Korea's leading wireless telecommunications operator, SK Telecom Co Ltd, have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives.
SK Telecom chief AI global officer SK Chung and CelcomDigi chief innovation officer T Kugan signed the MoU here today at the SK Telecom tower.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil, CelcomDigi chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Idham Nawawi and SK Telecom vice-president of AI strategic partnership Will Cho.
Idham said the MoU was focused on three key areas of AI Use Cases in Malaysia, Commercialising AI Services and Exploring New AI Business Opportunities.
He said in exploring new AI business opportunities, both companies will share information and cooperate to identify new business opportunities for scaling AI services in agreed markets.
"In terms of AI Use Cases in Malaysia, CelcomDigi and SKT will collaborate to introduce and implement mutually agreed AI solutions within CelcomDigi's departments, with SKT providing the necessary resources and expertise," he said.
Meanwhile, regarding Commercialising AI Services, both companies will work together to commercially launch AI services in agreed markets, focusing on both online and offline marketing to maximise financial gains.
Idham also hopes that CelcomDIgi can be one of the largest AI companies in Malaysia in the next few years.
"We have the capabilities, we connect more than 20 million users on our network, we have solid infrastructure, we are building the facilities, and this is a good foundation for us to move to the space of AI," he said.
In July, CelcomDigi launched its state-of-the-art CelcomDigi AI Experience Centre (AiX) - which serves as a focal point for cross-industry collaborations, leveraging emerging technologies such as 5G, AI, extended reality, robotics, analytics and metaverse.
