KUALA LUMPUR: TP-Link Malaysia has partnered with Universiti Malaya (UM) to introduce arguably the country's first AI-powered Wi-Fi 7 network.
This, the company said, will revolutionise connectivity at UM's Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) and set a new standard for digital learning and research.
The partnership was formalised through a memorandum of agreement (MoA).
TP-Link said it will deploy an AI-driven Wi-Fi system that will enhance performance, security and user experience by intelligently adapting to network needs and security threats.
It will install Wi-Fi 7 in key locations, such as Lecture Halls 1 & 2 and the Networking teaching lab at FCSIT, to support over 750 users, significantly improving connectivity for students and staff.
TP-Link Malaysia regional director Hugo Cai said: "We are proud and excited to partner with UM to explore the utilisation of cutting-edge technologies like Wi-Fi 7 and integrated AI solutions as we look towards driving innovation and enhancing Malaysia's digital experience, especially in the education sector."
Associate professor Dr. Ang Tan Fong will lead the project supported by a team that includes Prof Dr Chan Chee Seng and Associate Prof Dr Ling Teck Chaw.
UM chief information officer Prof Dr. Nor Badrul Anuar Juma'at said it had been discussing with TP-Link on further collaboration to utilise some of their products as PoC in other areas of the UM campus.
The three-year collaboration involves TP-Link providing equipment and technical support worth up to RM300,000.
The equipment will eventually be transferred to UM, ensuring long-term benefits.
FCSIT dean Prof Dr. Chan Chee Seng said the long-term plan with TP-Link will go beyond financial help.
They are planning various events such as competition and internship opportunities in TP-Link headquarters in China.
