End of an era as Dutch Lady bids farewell to PJ factory

KUALA LUMPUR: Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd (DLMI)  has marked the end of an era as it bids farewell to its iconic factory in Petaling Jaya.

DLMI said the facility has been a key part of the Petaling Jaya community, offering employment, contributing to economic development and producing cherished dairy products for generations of Malaysians.

Managing director Ramjeet Kaur Virik said while it is bittersweet, DLMI's mission to nourish the nation has gotten bigger and better with the move to Bandar Enstek in Negri Sembilan.

"This factory made DLMI the country's leading dairy manufacturing company, a position we still enjoy after all these years. While our beloved factory in Petaling Jaya is no more, we have the fondest memories and milestones to be proud of.

"DLMI is forging ahead in our next corporate chapter with determination and the deepest passion as we continue nourishing Malaysians," she added.

Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Lee Chean Chung who attended the event on Sunday, said the factory has been a centrepiece of the community for more than six decades.

"It is not just a symbol of economic opportunity, but of hard work, dedication, and resilience," he added.

The event also honoured the factory's cow sculptures, Daisy and Maya, which will be moved to DLMI's facility in Bandar Enstek.

In a farewell gesture, DLMI announced its participation in an upcoming social enterprise project, the "Healthy Eating and Nutrition Programme for Children".

The initiative, helmed by the Petaling Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre with support from Allegra Technologies Sdn Bhd, aims to benefit 300 children aged one to six by promoting healthy eating and supporting growth and nutrition.

DLMI said the programme will utilise artificial intelligence-powered vending machines to distribute daily milk to the children, ensuring consistent access to essential nutrients and fostering improved health outcomes.
