KUALA LUMPUR: Drakkar Capital Holdings said that the increase in the minimum wage from RM1,500 to RM1,700 per month, effective Feb 1, 2025, is a significant step toward supporting middle-class families amid rising living costs.
"This is a positive move by the government. However, as private sector companies, we can do more through sponsorships and charity events to help improve livelihoods, particularly within the bottom 40 per cent (B40) community," said Neyren S., the company's director of public relations and marketing.
He said that the company recently launched an initiative to support the B40 community in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, with the aim of helping Malaysia's lower-income households by providing essential resources, financial support, and community programmes.
In conjunction with the Deepavali festival, the company organised a charity event at a school in Petaling Jaya, donating essential items valued at over RM5,000 to 45 B40 families.
In a statement, he said that this initiative meets the immediate needs of these communities and highlights the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility and promoting social equity.
"The rising cost of living, particularly for basic necessities, is a significant concern for everyday citizens. By focusing on B40 groups, we hope to make a meaningful impact, foster goodwill, and promote economic inclusivity," he noted.
