KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened higher ahead of Bank Negara Malaysia's overnight policy rate (OPR) decision, tracking Wall Street's positive performance as the US presidential election results trickle in and it continues to be too close to call.
At 9.16am, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI rose 0.28 per cent or 4.51 points to 1,625.21 versus Tuesday's close of 1,620.70.
The broader market saw gainers led losers 321 to 151 while 317 counters were unchanged.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd said the FBM KLCI managed to close just abovethe 1,620 level amid a choppy session as investors continue to mop up banks, plantation and telco stocks ahead of corporate earnings results later this month.
"Although, outlook on Wall Street remains jittery, we believe the local bourse to stay steady following recent sell-down hence expect the index to trend within the1,615, 1,625 range today," it said in a note.
On the index board, FBM100 and FBM Emas added 0.36 per cent to 11,982.10 and 12,271.24 respectively.
FBM Ace gained 0.14 per cent to 5,076.04.
