Bursa Malaysia opens mixed, as interest in heavyweights keep key index green

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened mixed as the key index mirrored Wall Street's strong performance last week.

At 9.37am, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI rose 0.23 per cent or 3.68 points to 1,624.92 versus Friday's close of 1,621.24.

The benchmark index opened at 1,625.63 points.

The broader market saw decliners lead gainers 319 to 250 while 380 counters were unchanged.

On the index board, FBM100 added 0.17 per cent to 11,986.74, FBM Emas rose 0.16 per cent to 12,285.21 while FBM Ace dropped 0.19 per cent to 5,135.11. R

akuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said the FBM KLCI closed slightly lower last week amid mixed regional markets. He said the outlook for local equities remains positive, with Malaysia's economy supported by strong consumer demand, sector recovery, and government resilience measures.

"Structural reforms are expected to lift corporate earnings. Plantation stocks may see continued short-term interest as CPO futures surpassed RM5,000/tonne," he said. 

The benchmark index is expected to trend within 1,620-1,630 today.
