Bursa Malaysia opens mixed as buying interest lifts heavyweights

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened mixed as buying interest was targeted at heavyweights, leaving the broader market in negative territory.

At 9.25am, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI was up 0.35 per cent or 5.6 points to 1,599.89 versus Friday's close of 1,594.29.

The index opened marginally higher at 1,596.84.

The overall market saw losers led gainers 294 to 245 while 371 counters were unchanged.

On the index board, FBM Emas added and FBM100 added 0.22 per cent to 12,157.79 and 11,849.94 respectively and FBM Ace rose 0.13 per cent to 5,138.07.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said the FBM KLCI ended last week on a weak note attributed to late selling from foreign funds again.

"As the third quarter corporate results reporting season has ended without any nasty surprises, we believe market undertone to stablilise hence expect buyers to return if and when the index dips below the 1,590 mark."

"Therefore, we anticipate the index to hover within the 1,595-1,610 range today, particularly propped up by the planters in line with the strong crude palm oil price," said Thong.
