KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) has partnered with Aim Concept Sdn Bhd (ACSB) to provide RM75 million in financing, initiating a RM428 million expansion project at Penang General Hospital.
The project will introduce a 15-floor facility featuring 216 beds, specialist clinics, and wards for cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and ENT services.
Additionally, it will house intensive care and high-dependency units, along with advanced operating theatres designed for robotic surgery.
This initiative is set to create 2,100 jobs, ease overcrowding, and improve access to high-quality specialist care.
BPMB highlighted its dedication to national development through impact-driven financing, with the project aligned to its Measuring Impact on National Development (MIND) framework.
This framework ensures compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and supports the objectives of Malaysia's 12th Plan (RMK12).
Roni Abdulwahab, group chief executive officer of BPMB, highlighted the bank's long-standing mission to support Bumiputera entrepreneurs, noting ACSB as a standout example under the PuTERA35 initiative.
"This is yet another reflection of the DFI ecosystem's support and partnership in strengthening our overall mandate, from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to highly competitive large-scale corporations. Through the DFI ecosystem, there is a continuity of support and capital towards the development of Bumiputera entrepreneurs to their next stage of growth and beyond," he said.
ACSB managing director Datuk Abd Rahim Jaafar expressed gratitude for the partnership, noting the company's resilience through financial challenges since 1997.
"This collaboration combines ambition, innovation, and motivation. As the saying goes, 'If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.' With BPMB, we aim to go far together," he said.
"This collaboration represents a blend of ambition, innovation, and motivation. As we move forward, I am reminded of an old saying: If we want to go fast, go alone—that era is behind us. But if we want to go far, we go together. I hope, with BPMB, we go far together," he said.
