KUALA LUMPUR: The entrepreneurship empowerment programme is expected to expand and enhance the financial assistance for Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) veteran entrepreneurs, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said.
Adly said the programme, which will be organised by the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT), would help veteran entrepreneurs to grow their businesses in collaboration with strategic partners among GLCs, GLICs, and the private sector.
"This programme not only provides veterans with an opportunity to improve their standard of living but also offers them the opportunity to contribute significantly to the country's economic growth, especially through the entrepreneurial sector," he said in his speech during the launching ceremony of the 'Usahawan Wira' Empowerment Programme 2024/2025 at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur today.
Designed to support veterans and their families in achieving long-term financial sustainability, the programme is part of LTAT and the Defence Ministry's ongoing efforts to build an inclusive and sustainable ecosystem tailored to ATM veterans.
Adly further commented that LTAT remains consistent and steadfast in carrying out its mandate, even beyond the responsibilities entrusted to them.
He stated that the programme launched to empower veteran entrepreneurs proves LTAT's steadfastness and commitment to the group, despite facing various perceptions that may arise among the community.
LTAT's chief executive, Mohammad Ashraf Md. Radzi, said the statutory body prioritise its mandate as a custodian of ATM personnel's socio-economic protection.
"Beyond delivering sustainable dividends, LTAT's commitment is demonstrated through high-impact programs that support the aspirations of the ministry.
"This initiative underscores LTAT's genuine dedication to ensuring a more secure future for our contributors," he added.
In collaboration with People Systems Consultancy, a leading entrepreneurial training organisation, LTAT is piloting this program with a targeted group of 35 underprivileged veteran entrepreneurs.
Over six months, participants will undergo a comprehensive capacity-building program, including integrated entrepreneurial training modules, mentor-mentee sessions, online learning, and financial literacy programs.
Aligned with the Ekonomi MADANI vision and GEAR-uP's strategic agenda, this initiative underscores LTAT's ongoing commitment to improving the lives of ATM veterans.
Beyond this program, LTAT continues to support the initiatives within the Madani framework, including financial literacy programs and second-career placement opportunities through its wholly owned corporation, Perbadanan Hal Ehwal Bekas Angkatan Tentera (PERHEBAT), creating a holistic support system for the MAF community.
