KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed mixed as the key index extended its losses for the third consecutive day with the utilities sector weighed down by a sharp decline in Tenaga Nasional Bhd's (TNB) share price.
Utilities sector saw the largest decline by 0.74 per cent as TNB's counter fell 14 sen or 1.0 per cent to RM13.68 with its market capitalisation valued at RM79.5 billion.
At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) declined 2.46 points or 0.15 per cent to 1,608.97 yesterday's close of 1,611.43.
The index opened 1.22 points higher at 1,612.65 and hovered between 1,607.88 and 1,615.93 today.
The market breadth, however, was positive as gainers led losers 534 to 513, while 562 counters were unchanged, 867 untraded and 13 suspended.
Meanwhile, turnover declined to 2.74 billion units valued at RM2.64 billion versus 3.02 billion units valued at RM2.40 billion yesterday.
"In the broader market, the healthcare sector gained the most by 1.77 per cent, which was led by Hartalega Holdings Bhd and Top Glove Corporation Bhd following Hartalega's special dividend announcement which boosted the sentiment for gloves-related counters," Malacca Securities said.
