KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong actor Vinci Wong has filed for bankruptcy at the city's High Court.
Dimsum Daily reported yesterday that the filing was submitted on Dec 13, with the hearing scheduled for Jan 21 next year.
Hong Kong media outlets alleged that a credit firm recently sought to recover approximately HK$2.93 million (RM1.68 million) from the 54-year-old actor.
On Monday, Wong issued a statement acknowledging the bankruptcy filing and said that the decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with various parties.
However, the former TVB star refrained from addressing rumours about the debt collection efforts of the financial agency.
"I'm unable to provide any further comments," he said, urging everyone to give him space and time to handle his problems.
"I will continue facing challenges with positivity and strength," he added.
Wong is the grandson of WWK Distribution Limited founder Wong Sha San.
Over the years, he has served as a host for various programmes and appeared in dramas such as Life For Life, Healing Hands 2 and Hidden Treasures.
He previously served as the chairman of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.
