BANGI: Onyx NuEnergy Malaysia Sdn Bhd aims to commercialise the renewable thermoelectric generator (NTEG) HeatSeeker as an alternative to solar photovoltaic (PV) system.
Similar to solar PV, the NTEG converts heat into electricity which is a sustainable energy solution.
The NTEG technology is expected to revolutionise the solar industry, solve the problems related to solar PV panels and provide the impetus for expanded use of solar energy.
NTEG HeatSeeker, patented by US-based NuEnergy Technologies Corporation, has consented Onyx to represent its interests in the venture.
Onyx also has the exclusive right to utilise the patent and collaborate with AdvanceTC Ltd in Malaysia to establish a manufacturing and marketing company.
According to Onyx, current solar technologies cause high manufacturing costs, resulting in a high price for end users.
The core technology of PV panels, it added, is inherently inefficient in converting light into electricity.
PV technology has limitations, such as its inability to function in the dark or convert heat into energy.
Onyx Group chief executive officer Alan Yeoh said the NTEG represents a significant leap forward in the efforts to address global warming and promote renewable energy solutions.
"By integrating NTEG technology, we can enhance our energy security, create green jobs, and contribute to global efforts in addressing climate change," he said at the Institute of Microelectronic Systems and Nanoelectronics in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia here.
Besides providing a wide range of applications and a reliable energy source, Yeoh said the NTEG requires low maintenance, making it practical in various conditions.
He noted that the technology utilises advanced thermoelectric generation and nanotechnology to increase power generation and efficiency.
"NTEG achieved high efficiency up to 65 per cent, significantly surpass current PV panels efficiency," he added.
