KUALA LUMPUR: The Berjaya-led consortium vying for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) project announced today that Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) has withdrawn from the consortium to pursue other strategic opportunities.
The consortium was involved in MyHSR's Request for Information (RFI) exercise for the project early this year.
Berjaya Corp Bhd founder and advisor Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun in a statement said the group remains steadfast in its mission to deliver a world-class HSR system.
"This will transform regional connectivity and economic development for Malaysia and to help the nation's successful transition towards green mobility in the form of the high-speed rail," Tan said in a statement.
Despite the MRCB's departure, Berjaya said the consortium will be further strengthened and better aligned with the evolving needs of the project and to meet the expectations of the government.
The other consortium members include Berjaya Rail Sdn Bhd, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB), IJM Corp Bhd (IJM) and other technical partners such as Deutsche Bahn, Hitachi Rail and Hyundai Rotem.
The consortium and its technical partners are recognised leaders in infrastructure development, engineering, and transportation management, and collectively, they bring decades of proven expertise in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
Seven local and international consortia, comprising 31 firms submitted RFI concept proposals for the HSR project on Jan 15, 2024.
The cabinet will decide on the revival of the HSR project by the end of the month or early next month.
