KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit which has recently hit new lows against the Singapore dollar, was trading at 2.1772 against the Singapore dollar about 18 years ago.
On Friday, it hit an all-time low of 3.5418 against the Singapore dollar.
According to Google Finance, the ringgit hit a high of 2.1772 against the Singapore dollar on April 14, 2006.
This was against a backdrop of 5.9 per cent gross domestic product growth spurred by robust global growth which resulted in strong demand for electronics and primary commodities.
Strong external demand was supported by strong domestic activity as private consumption rose in line with incomes and private investment increased to expand productive capacity to meet demand.
It started trading above the 3.0000 level in 2015.
As at time of writing, the ringgit was trading at 3.5098 against the Singapore dollar.
