Batik Air, Kia to offer private terminal transfer service at KLIA in EV9 & Carnival models

KUALA LUMPUR: Batik Air Malaysia and Kia have announced a partnership to offer a new private terminal transfer service designed exclusively for the former's business class passengers.

Starting June 24, Batik Air and Kia, through its sole distributor,l Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd, will offer a seamless and luxurious transfer service between the main terminal building and the satellite building in KLIA Terminal 1.

Passengers will be chauffeured in the state-of-the-art, all-electric Kia EV9 as well as the latest model of Kia Carnival.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative is a testament to the aviation industry's potential to lead the way in sustainable practices.

"Batik Air's adoption of the Kia EV9 for this service is a clear demonstration of a commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning towards a low-carbon future.

"This is not just an aspiration but a deeply rooted commitment that Malaysia holds dear.

"We are committed to encouraging innovation and partnerships that will propel us toward a sustainable, low-carbon future in the aviation sector," he said at the official signing ceremony here today.

Batik Air group strategic director Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the service supplements the existing bus transfer provided by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, necessitated by the temporary suspension of the aerotrain service, scheduled to complete by January 2025.

"In collaboration with Kia, we are introducing eco-friendly and premium transfer options.

"This initiative aligns perfectly with our long-term vision of advancing sustainability in aviation," he said.

In addition to the groundbreaking transfer service, Chandran announced the launch of its wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE).

He said the offering enables passengers to seamlessly connect their personal devices, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable in-flight experience with complimentary access available to both economy and business class passengers.

"We are currently upgrading and installing the wireless-IFE across our entire fleet. At present, two units of the A330 and nine units of the B737-8 have been equipped with this system," he added.

Utilising a system provided by PXCom, a leading expert in inflight entertainment and connectivity systems, the advanced SkyVerse platform elevates passenger experiences while generating ancillary revenue opportunities for over 25 airline customers.

The airline will continue to focus on all customer touch points for product innovations both on- ground as well as onboard.
