Police arrest driver of truck which reversed and killed motorcyclist

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a truck driver responsible for an accident that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and injured a car driver on Jalan Kerinchi, heading from Jalan Pantai Dalam to Jalan Pantai Baru here.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday morning and went viral on social media, happened when the truck in a construction site suddenly began reversing.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department head, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said police received a report of the incident at 8.34am, involving a motorcycle, a truck, and a car.

"The truck driver, a 32-year-old man, was refilling brake fluid for his truck inside the construction site when the incident occured.

"While refilling the brake fluid, the truck suddenly started reversing on its own, crashing into a safety gate and then onto the main road, where it collided with the motorcycle ridden by a 32-year-old man.

"The victim fell and was crushed under the truck's rear right tyre. He was confirmed dead at the scene," he said in a statement here.

He added that the truck also collided with a car in the adjacent lane, causing the car driver to sustain injuries on the forehead.

"The truck driver has been arrested for further investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
