Innovative public policy solutions needed as Malaysia strives for high-income nation status - PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's high-income nation goal requires innovative public policy solutions, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

This is amid the country reaching an inflection point, facing challenges from generative artificial intelligence (AI), shifting global trade dynamics, the urgent climate crisis, and an ageing population.

"To achieve this milestone, it is essential to implement innovative public policy solutions that reflect the Madani values of sustainability, equity, and inclusivity through multistakeholder collaboration."

"This dynamic will be explored at PRAXIS 2024, which brings together policymakers, private sector, civil society and academic stakeholders," he said in a statement at PRAXIS 2024 organised by the Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) today.

PRAXIS is ISIS Malaysia's flagship public policy conference, designed to bridge ideas and to translate theory into practice.

This year's theme, "Policies for a Better Tomorrow", addresses issues of national interests, such as adapting Malaysia's future of work to Generative AI, balancing social media platform regulation with free speech considerations, exploring emerging decarbonisation technologies to achieve net zero and more.

Addressing these emerging issues is expected to advance Malaysia's strategic priorities as it assumes the Asean chairmanship in 2025.

ISIS Malaysia chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah emphasised how ISIS Malaysia's role as the Prime Minister's think-tank with an autonomous mandate, enables it to offer critical and constructive viewpoints on matters of strategic relevance.

"While the vagaries of the future are unpredictable, the only certainty we can rely on is our ability to plan for it."

"As such, we hope PRAXIS 2024 ignites critical thinking towards these pressing policy priorities," he noted.
