Nissan Leaf electric car launched in Malaysia, priced at RM188,888.

KUALA LUMPUR: The latest iteration of the best-selling electric car in the world, the Nissan Leaf was launched today by Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd.

The all-new Nissan Leaf will be priced from RM188,888, and powered by a 40kWh lithium-ion battery which will give it a range of 311km on a full-charge.

With 150ps and 320Nm of torque, the Leaf is no slouch, even out-accelerating its petrol powered counterparts with a century sprint of 7.9 seconds.

Top speed is 155kph, which has been electronically limited by Nissan.

On the outside, Nissan has given the new Leaf sleek styling with a Cd of 0.28. Exterior details include a new diamond holographic grille, 'boomerang' LED daytime running lights, two-tone 'floating' roof and 17-inch 'Diamond Cut Turbine' rims.

Inside, the Leaf comes with a 7-inch display, Alcantra leather seats and flexible cargo space with up to 435-litres of space or 1,176 litres with seats folded down.

For charging, the Leaf comes standard with a 6.6kW (Type 1) wall box charger that takes approximately seven hours to fully charge.

With a 50kW CHAdeMO quick charger though, the Leaf can charge in a quick 60 minutes.

Currently, these chargers are available free- of-charge at ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Subang Jaya, Nichicon (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Bandar Baru Bangi and PLUS Ayer Keroh R&R, Malacca.

Buyers also have the option of charging for free at 17 ETCM locations nationwide with 6.6kW wallbox chargers.

Due to the charging facilities in Malaysia which are still in its infancy, ETCM is giving Leaf owners the option of using a Serena, X-trail or Navara in case they need to go for outstation trips beyond the charging infrastructure.

The deal is for three years and capped at 23 days of usage per year.

The completely-built up Leaf comes in two tone schemes of Pearl White with a Deep Blue Pearl roof or Magnetic Red with a Super Black roof.

The choices for single tone are Brilliant Silver, Super Black, Gun Metal Grey or Deep Blue Pearl.
