Toyota Majesty, a Hiace-based luxury commuter launched in Thailand

TOYOTA has the Alphard and Vellfire luxury commuters that use the monocoque construction, and the Hiace van that is constructed on the truck-like ladder-frame chassis.

But for something in between, the company has introduced the Toyota Majesty in Thailand, a luxury iteration of the Hiace commuter van.

It is not simply a plushed up Hiace either. The Majesty is a proper luxury people carrier.

The Japan-made CBU Majesty is priced from 1.709 million Baht (approximately RM231,925) for the Standard trim all the way to 2.199 million Baht (RM298,528) for the range-topping Grande.

No leaf spring rear suspension here, instead the Majesty makes do with MacPherson struts with stabiliser bars at both axles.

The Hiace commuter has Normal bodystyle with Standard Roof and Long body with High Roof, and the Majesty is specifically-based on the latter.

In addition, the Majesty is larger than the Alphard and Vellfire in every dimensions.

To step up in the luxury game, the Majesty is well-equipped. It comes with projector LED headlights with LED daytime-running lights, powered side mirrors with turn signals, chrome door handles, electric sliding doors on both sides, keyless entry, Optitron meter panel, auto air-con and ambient lighting.

The infotainment system is a seven-inch head unit with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation and 12 speakers.

Under the hood is a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine similarly found on the Hilux, which makes 163hp and a strong 420Nm of torque.

A six-speed automatic transmission is the sole gearbox offered.

As with the Hiace, the Majesty is still a four-row vehicle with 11 seats, all upholstered in leather.

However, the two seats on the second row feature plus headrests, ottoman, massage function, and electric adjustment.

The Majesty offers an interesting colour combination. Pearl white units are matched with a black tone cabin, while black exterior colour can choose from black or beige interior colours.

On the safety front, the Majesty gets ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), limited-slip differential, hill assist control, emergency stop signal and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

It also comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense, comprises Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beam. Airbag count is nine.
