Yamaha launches new NMax

KUALA LUMPUR: YAMAHA aficionados in Malaysia have been clamouring for the latest NMax model ever since the scooter was launched in other Asian countries.

The previous model was waning in popularity, and even though Hong Leong Yamaha knew this, the Covid-19 situation pushed the launch of the new NMax further back than anticipated.

The wait is now over and the new NMax was recently launched online.

Though the powerplant remains the same in general, the 155cc Blue Core SOHC 4 valve engine is now augmented with a Starter Generator Control Unit. This allows for a Stop/Start facility which shuts the engine off automatically when stopped and restarts automatically once the throttle is opened again.

Needless to say, the Stop/Start facility saves fuel and also protects against wear and tear on the engine in urban surroundings. It is easily deactivated (if necessary) via a simple switch.

Another addition is a 12V auxiliary socket, which is now standard, allowing riders to hook up or charge their devices while riding.

The new NMax has also been facelifted with new LED array headlights – four along the top for low beam, and an additional pair underneath for high beam. LED position lights, or daytime riding lights, are also neatly arranged to provide a wider spread of light.

Another new feature of the NMax is the large circular LCD instrument panel which replaces the old analogue one. The information displayed on the LCD is conveniently accessed via a toggle switch on the left handlebar. Rear tail lights are also updated with LEDs and are equipped with a hazard light in case of emergencies.

Underseat storage is 23.3 litres, which allows for a full-face helmet and additional hooks are provided for other items as well. The large 7.1 litre fuel tank is capacious and should allow for longer rides and less time spent at petrol stops.

'Lincah Mempesona' is available in Yamaha Grey or Matt Red and is now at all Yamaha Authorised Dealers at RM8,998.00 excluding insurance and road tax.
