KUALA LUMPUR: A blast from the past, Suzuki's long-awaited award-winning SUV Jimny has finally returned to Malaysian shores in updated form.
Small, lightweight and considered a highly capable four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle, the fourth generation Jimny sports design elements inherited from the past generations with modern features.
This Completely Built Up (CBU) model imported from Japan comes equipped with a 1.5L petrol engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Suzuki says the 1.5L engine generates strong torque throughout a wide rpm range for efficient urban drives and powerful off-road performance. The drive is sent to either the rear or all four wheels via 'ALLGRIP PRO' system, featuring a selectable 4WD with low-range transfer case as well as hill-descent and hill-hold functionality.
Other features that make it fun for off-roading includes a ladder frame, 3-link rigid axle suspension with coil spring, high 210mm ground clearance and three clearance angles. Weighing in at only 1,095kg (minimum kerb weight), the lightweightness of the Jimny also complements its off-road capabilities while delivers high fuel efficiency.
The cabin retains a classic four-seater configuration with wider front seats for better support and improved headroom and legroom spaces. Rear passenger seats are flat designed when reclined which offers up to 830l of space for more storage.
Retro design and functional simplicity are key behind the wheel. There're digital air-conditioning controls, leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel and a touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth telephone and audio functions.
One of the biggest safety features is based on Suzuki's Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) concept, with the Jimny's body specially structured to efficiently absorb and disperse the force of impact in the event of a collision and reduces pedestrian injuries.
Its stability is also maintained by its Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) where engine torque and brakes are automatically adjusted to suppress wheel slip to help the driver stay in control during slippery road conditions to deliver a fun off-road adventure. ISOFIX car seat mounts are also available.

Priced at RM168,900 on the road without SST, the Jimny comes in four different colours – Kinetic Yellow and Bluish Black Pearl 3, Jungle Green, Medium Grey, and Bluish Black Pearl 3.
The first Jimny made its debut in 1970 highlighting Suzuki's prowess in 4WD technology. This entry is the second official launch of new generation Suzuki Cars in Malaysia under its new distributor Naza Eastern Motors Sdn Bhd. The first launch was held back in April 2021, with the return of the hot hatch, Suzuki Swift Sport.
Some the new Jimny's notable awards includes being the winner of multiple 2019 World Car of The Year categories: winner of the World Urban Car category, Top 3 in World Car Design, and Top 10 in the overall category.
