UMPSA ranked 159th in QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025

PEKAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), which offers technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes, has been ranked 159th in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025.

UMPSA, which celebrates its 22nd anniversary this year, was ranked 39th in Southeast Asia and 16th in Malaysia.It remains the country's leading technical university within the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN), according to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) report released last week.

UMPSA's deputy vice-chancellor (research and innovation), Professor Ts Dr Aida Mustapha, said the latest ranking proves that the university has successfully strengthened its position alongside world-class institutions.

She said that apart from producing globally-recognised academic programmes with high-quality research, UMPSA offers engineering and technology-based higher education programmes and has become the country's leading provider of high-level TVET programmes.

This year, UMPSA's international research network score ranked 110th in Asia, compared to 130th last year. In the 'papers per faculty' indicator, the university ranked 133rd in Asia, up from 143rd last year.

"UMPSA has increased its overall rating for 2025 to 44.9 per cent, compared to 31.5 per cent in the 2024 rankings. This improvement reflects the university's ongoing efforts to enhance its reputation and excellence in the global higher education landscape," Aida said in a statement today.

The QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025 evaluates universities using 11 indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, staff with PhDs, papers per faculty, international research network, citations per paper, international faculty, international students, inbound exchange students, and outbound exchange students.

This year, the ranking assessed 984 institutions, with 142 institutions listed for the first time, representing 25 countries across eastern, southern, south-eastern, and central Asia.
