UMPSA strikes deal with world's largest academic publisher Elsevier

KUANTAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has established ties with Elsevier, a world-renowned leader in academic publishing.

The partnership paves the way for its lecturers and students to access various high-quality scientific journals, handbooks and electronic books (e-books).

UMPSA vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Yuserrie Zainuddin said the cooperation will provide the university access to databases like Scopus, ScienceDirect, and reference software like Mendeley, that will improve the quality of research in producing scientific works and facilitate collaboration between researchers.

"The cooperation will give our academics and researchers access to reliable resources offered by Elsevier.

"Access to Elsevier's journal and eBook platforms will help the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) increase the level of publications and visibility of their research works at the global stage.

"The Elsevier-MTUN partnership will enable us to stay at the forefront of global research," he said in his speech during the 3rd Elsevier-MTUN Symposium in conjunction with Academia Day 2024 here.

At the symposium, Yuserrie exchanged a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Elsevier's Southeast Asia regional director Omar Malik and witnessed by Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) vice-chancellor Professor Datuk  Dr Ruzairi Abdul Rahim was also involved in the exchange of MoU with Elsevier.

MTUN consists of four universities, namely UMPSA, UTHM, Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka.

Meanwhile, Yuserrie described the symposium which co-hosted by Elsevier as an outstanding platform for academics, researchers, and industry leaders to explore cutting-edge innovations, share research discoveries, and collaborate on solving society's most pressing challenges.

He said the symposium along with the Academia Day helped foster the academia's role in addressing real-world issues.

"They create an ideal environment where research meets application, where academia and industry collaborate, and where ideas can flourish to make a lasting impact on society.

"The Elsevier-MTUN symposium displays how shared efforts, knowledge, and a collective commitment to excellence can elevate the quality of education and research, contributing significantly to the advancement of our nation and beyond," he said.
