EVER wonder what are the most downloaded apps and games (both free and paid) in the region for iPhones and iPads?
Apple has unveiled its 2017 list and trend of the most popular apps, music and movies across the App Store, Apple Music and iTunes in the Southeast Asia region.
The company said 2017 was a huge year for entertainment, with lots of new content from the ever-growing indie artists and development community.
Four breakout trends for 2017 was the introduction of augmented reality (AR) apps and games, the rise of real-time competitive gaming, apps that focused on mental health and mindfulness, and apps that transformed storytelling and reading.
Groundbreaking AR technology apps like 'My Very Hungry Caterpillar AR' brings the classic children’s book character to life, right on your coffee table. Games were also a big highlight with Amon and AR Dragon getting notable attention.
Also, this year the App Store became home to some of the most-played multiplayer games in the world. Standouts from previous years like Clash Royale and Hearthstone’s Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion are joined by new experiences like Art of War: Red Tides, Stormbound, Guns of Boom mixes 3D and Modern Combat Versus.
Apps which focused specifically on mental health, mindfulness, and stress reduction include colouring book apps Bloom and Lake, with meditation app Zen Studio contributing to the growing list.
