#TECH: An NFT-related job may be in your future

AS the NFT market is booming, the first dedicated job openings in the sector are starting to emerge. And this is just the beginning.

"NFT Business Developer," "3D Artist," "NFT Design and Creation"... the NFT craze is starting to hit the job market. A growing number companies are looking for the rare gems in this sector. Several job offers have been published in recent weeks. The ads show a range of positions in demand in order for firms to get on board in this market, with a technology whose usage is accelerating in a number of fields.

For instance, cryptocurrency exchange platform Binance posted an ad for a "Business Developer - NFT" on the job board specialised in remote working, anywhere.careers. Requirements included at least two years of experience in a consulting, legal or regulatory role, experience working "with crypto and/or payments and working knowledge of crypto licensing/registration requirements preferred".

Offers for other jobs, sometimes more vague or even wacky, are appearing on the web. These include web developers to create marketplaces or 3D artists to create a first collection of artworks "of cute little animals with Kim Jong-Un's head," for example.

Market of the fugure

While for the moment, NFT-related job offers can be counted by tens, they should increase in the coming years, as the market for digital objects and more broadly the sector related to blockchain is expected to become increasingly important.

"My prediction is that over the coming years we'll see the consensus shift on digital items, from 'these are worthless and not real' to 'this is the best way to prove ownership, scarcity, and authenticity,'" Jonathan Bales wrote in his Lucky Maverick newsletter in January 2021 after spending US$35,000 (RM143,500) on an NFT. "I'm convinced NFTs are the future of collecting. The most exciting aspect, to me, is that the party is just getting started."
