#TECH: Order more to save more on food delivery

AS a frequent foodpanda user, I was intrigued when the app recently announced it was giving away free two-month pandapro subscriptions and RM50 in cash vouchers to four million users.

For those who are not familiar with the app, pandapro is a subscription that offers users exclusive discounts for food and groceries on the foodpanda app.

Currently, the subscriptions range from RM4.90 per month (yearly subscription), RM6.90 per month (bi-annual subscription), to RM8.90 per month (monthly subscription).

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I had been contemplating whether or not to get the subscription to it for a while, so when the deal popped up, I decided to give it a go.

Upon signing up for the pandapro subscription, I received two RM8.90 cash rebate vouchers and RM50 in cash vouchers in my 'Vouchers' tab. In essence, that is equivalent to getting two months of pandapro for free, along with RM50 in potential savings.

Next, the main question I had was, "Is pandapro really worth it?".

One of the main draws of pandapro is that it offers 12 x free deliveries every month. Additionally, subscribers may get access to more discounts compared to non-pandapro users.

As shown in the example above, just by being a pandapro user, I was able to save a total of RM14.99 — which is RM6.24 more than a non-pandapro user. This was due to the free delivery and additional discounts offered to pandapro users.

ORDER MORE, SAVE MORE

Another advantage I discovered with pandapro was that I could occasionally unlock extra savings when I ordered more.

For example, I started off by ordering a two-piece fried chicken set, which costs RM24.89, including delivery. Since the subtotal was below RM25, I was unable to qualify for a free delivery and certain promotions like PESTAPANDA.

However, once I added an order of nuggets, the system allowed both the free delivery as well as the PESTAPANDA promo code to be applied.

This resulted in RM12.99 of savings! Comparing both orders, I actually paid less for ordering more food, thanks to pandapro.

OTHER PERKS

Some of the other benefits that come with the pandapro subscription include extra discounts on selected restaurants, up to 25 per cent off for dine-ins, as well as up to 20 per cent off pandamart orders.

For those who eat out or order delivery often, pandapro offers a tonne of opportunities to save on food. As for those who cook at home, pandapro also makes it convenient to get ingredients at a discounted price.

Besides that, there are over 4,500 items available on pandamart, along with 10,000 other foodpanda shops including supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies and baking supply stores.

Verdict: 4/5

Overall, I was pleased with the value that pandapro subscribers get to enjoy. For regular foodpanda users, there is definitely an added incentive if they subscribe to pandapro, especially with all the potential savings.

In fact, I would say that it makes no sense not to get the subscription if you are ordering foodpanda at least two or three times a month.

You only have to pay a minimal amount upfront to subscribe to the plan (but you will receive it back in the form of two RM8.90 cash rebates).
