#TECH: Genting SkyWorld uses AI technology to reduce overcrowding

KUALA LUMPUR: Alibaba Cloud has collaborated with Genting SkyWorld Theme Park to deploy the region's first AI Virtual Queue (VQ) solutions for efficient crowd management and reducing visitors' waiting time.

The VQ solutions leverage advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms and real-time intelligence from the ride wait time throughput.

With it, the Genting SkyWorlds theme park's operations team will be able to seamlessly control crowd distribution, optimise ride capacity, handle higher crowd volume, and securely manage excessive traffic.

Resorts World Genting's vice president and theme park operations head, Greg Pearn said that their partnership with Alibaba enables guests to skip regular lines and enjoy the rides based on their preferred time.

"We talked to Alibaba about what we could do together and how we can leverage their AI technology for Genting SkyWorlds. Thanks to their VQ solutions, it takes guests' visits to the next level by introducing features like the VQ and Itinerary Planner," he said.

"These unique tools will allow them to have access to some attractive features like reserving preferred rides, attractions, and entertainment on their favoured time slot, creating groups for ticket holders, viewing recommended itineraries, and receiving real-time alerts for VQ reservations. Being the first theme park in Southeast Asia to feature the VQ technology, visitors can go to the right place at the right time rather than using the regular stand-by lines," he added.

Meanwhile, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Malaysia general manager Kun Huang said Alibaba Cloud has helped Genting SkyWorlds to develop the AI-powered Virtual Queue which utilises their latest cloud technology.

"The solution helps them to improve the user experience and complement the theme park's exceptional offerings to the guests while enabling them to securely maintain social connections. We are committed to providing the latest technology and solutions to Malaysia and we look forward to supporting more customers like Genting SkyWorld too," said Kun.

Alibaba Cloud's technology has the Itinerary Planner that curates personalised agendas and generates tailor-made itineraries with a single tap.

Since both VQ Solution and Itinerary Planning function are integrated into Genting SkyWorld's mobile app, guests can now plan their visits by making in-advanced reservations for the rides, attractions, and entertainment.

Those who regularly reserve VQ slots and follow the recommended itineraries will be rewarded with benefits like discount vouchers, additional VQ reservations, and more.

Moreover, guests who purchase offline tickets can now download the Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park mobile app for free via Google Play Store and Apple App Store upon arrival or use VQ kiosks to enjoy a similar experience and navigate their way there.
