#TECH: Grab and FoodPanda customers take sides on riders

KUALA LUMPUR: Today, Grab and FoodPanda delivery riders staged a strike based on lower delivery fees they got from the food-ordering platforms.

In protest of their low delivery fares, the 'strike by Grab food delivery riders in Malaysia' poster has been flying out on social media and further commencing their move at 4p.m today.

Although some might complain about the high-priced meals they had to pay for, several Twitter users commented on how Grab rider's earnings should be improved.

Izdham Zainal @idzhamzainal said "Please give riders an honourable salary" during the Food Delivery Blackout strike while Ahmad Hartan @ahmmadhartan1 said, "I'm with the riders. They're always with me when no one else would so we support our riders! Increase their fares!".

A Twitter user lamented the dangers riders had to face when they're on the road and further urged Grab and FoodPanda Malaysia to rethink their decisions, while Juliana Lazarus @juliej_lazarus said "GrabMY and FoodPanda MY have already charged atrocious amounts in jacked-up prices and delivery charges. The least they can do is pay their riders well."

Meanwhile, several tweeters complained about Grab food delivery fees, one of them mentioned "Grab Food delivery charges are ridiculously expensive.", and this made netizens angry.

Based on the Grab app, a 2.1km delivery fee shoots at RM8, which is almost the price the food users pays while Eats Seoul, which is 3.2km is RM7.

A tweeter tweeted in January saying if Grab wants more Grab Food users, they should reduce the delivery fee.

Despite today's strike, a few tweeters noted that there were Grab delivery riders out there who were able to deliver food, but there were fewer Grab and FoodPanda riders around Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur this morning.

@tristupe added "There were delivery riders out today, not many, but definitely down by at least 50 per cent. Those that are working despite the protest are the ones that may really need money as they know in Malaysia, protest brings you nowhere."
