Delivery rider and teacher arrested after ramming into cop

KUALA LUMPUR: A food delivery rider and a kindergarten teacher were arrested today after crashing into a policeman's motorcycle while driving in Jinjang.

Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said that the incident occurred during a crime prevention patrol by officers from the Jinjang police station.

At 11.45pm on October 21, a policeman spotted a Toyota Vellfire with its engine running.

He positioned his motorcycle in front of the vehicle, illuminated it with a flashlight, and identified himself as a police officer.

The male suspect, who was shirtless and wearing only shorts in the back seat, then moved to the driver's seat and accelerated, colliding with the policeman's motorcycle and dragging it for about 300m in an attempt to escape.

Fortunately, the officer managed to avoid serious injury and, along with other officers, pursued the vehicle, but the suspects successfully fled towards the MRR2 highway.

Sukarno said that the nature of the suspects' activities in the vehicle had not yet been confirmed.

"Acting on information, both suspects were arrested later in the vicinity of Batu Caves, Gombak, and Taman Melati, Setapak," he added.

The male suspect has been remanded for seven days, until Oct 29, while the female suspect will be held until tomorrow.

Both are being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison upon conviction.
