KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with the 18th Malaysian International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here, Alibaba.com launched its new online pavilion, Halal Pavilion, to help strengthen local small and medium-sized enterprises' to tap into the broader international halal market.
The pavilion aims to highlight certified halal suppliers, making them accessible to buyers from more than 190 countries, which are on Alibaba.com.
Alibaba.com's head for marketing and business development for Asia Pacific, Nianci Phang, in her speech at the event said the decision to launch its own Halal Pavilion was made after the company saw a tremendous growth of 39 per cent on online Halal inquiry.
"Our introduction of a dedicated pavilion for halal products is not only an important step towards making our marketplace more inclusive for global buyers with special sourcing needs, but it is also part of our commitment to enhancing the visibility of Malaysian suppliers in the international market, especially in an area in which they have an advantage," said Phang.
As the only B2B marketplace in Malaysia offering an end-to-end digital trade experience, Alibaba.com provides Malaysian SME exporters with a comprehensive suite of services covering online store management, translation support, digital marketing and sourcing, online transaction, logistics, customs clearance, foreign exchange and platform analytics.
To address the special needs of local SMEs, Alibaba.com said the company will be working alongside local partners to offer additional market-specific support such as knowledge-sharing webinars and expert insights, which includes Exabytes, Innovative Hub, Newpages and Trinity42.
All Alibaba.com suppliers with valid certifications from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) are welcome to onboard the new Halal Pavilion. The company also welcomes more SMEs to join where they can also enjoy benefits from the platform's Trade Confidence service, an order protection service which covers buyers in the event of payment, shipping and product quality-related disputes, as well as to establish the trust-link between buyers and suppliers.
"Malaysian suppliers on Alibaba.com can get free e-commerce onboarding and advanced training programmes in Malaysia run by successful and experienced lecturers. Furthermore, Alibaba.com in Malaysia has a Trade Confidence service, an order protection service which covers buyers in the event of payment, shipping and product quality-related disputes. Lastly, we also appoint local channel partners as they are able to handhold the supplies better. Giving suppliers a full ecosystem of support," she added.
